Just a short story about my Alberta Moose hunt, I was hunting in
the foot hills of the Canada Rocky's. The trees were in full color.
The moose were in full rut and on the move. On my first day
in the stand I saw my first bull. A big old bruiser who was on the
downhill slide of antlers but a huge animal. He was at 100 yards so
I just watched him pass by. What a sight, something you don't get
to see around here.
On the second day in the tree after seeing a bull sneaking
through the woods I called to him and to my surprise he turned and
headed right toward me. I kept calling and I got him in to within 18
yards. What a rush! I couldn't quit shaking as I was trying to video
tape him. He was a small bull but what a memory.
The third day the archery gods smiled upon me. After dropping me off
to my stand, my guide spotted a bull crossing a huge marsh.
So he came back and got me. We ran to the tree line on the
edge of the marsh. There we set up in a clearing by putting out a
decoy. My guide starting raking an old
moose shoulder bone against a tree and calling. It didn't take long.
The bull came in 50 yards from me. A few more scrapes on the tree
and it spotted the decoy. It took a few more steps toward the
decoy and I let my arrow fly at 38 yards. I can still see that arrow
sink into the moose's chest. A perfect heart shot. I guess all that
practice paid off.
I had a great hunting experience, I want to thank everyone at Flint
Bowman for putting on your archery league this fall. Everyone I met
and dealt with was very friendly and helpful. So thank you all.
I feel you all were a big part in me getting my moose. Oh, yes it's
very tasty!!!!
