Absolutely! We allow shooters of all styles. We have an
awesome target archery crowd as well as a very dedicated group of bow hunters.
We even have sand pit target ranges set up to accommodate broadheads for those
who want to practice with their broadheads before hunting season.
No. We do not sell archery equipment here at the club. But
a few of our members do have their own archery shops.
Yes. Our leagues and most of our shoots are open to the
general public. You can come in and register for our leagues and shoots at the
specified times. But keep in mind that members get a discount on the
registration fees not to mention full access to the club 24/7. But please feel
free to come out and join a league and give the club a test drive. We're
confident that you'll want to become a member after you see what we have to
offer!
No. Flint Bowmen doesn't offer any type of equipment service but our members
are usually more than happy to help people out if they have equipment issues.
Not to mention that a couple of our members actually own their own archery
shops. So you can almost always find somebody there at the club that can help
you out. And for our members, we do have a bow press and a limited amount of
tools in the back work room. Yet another benefit of becoming a member -
wink-wink!
Absolutely not! We have members of all experience levels from beginner to
advanced. In fact, one of the very best aspects of being a member here is the
tremendous amount of help you can get from those around you. We also have
instructional courses from time to time. Flint Bowmen Archery Club is well known
for the camaraderie of our members . Archers in general are almost always
willing to lend a hand and give advice or coaching. Unlike most other sports,
archery is more about competing with yourself than with other archers. Because
of this, everyone is glad to help you become the best you can be.
Only if you plan to shoot. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Actually, during the
youth leagues, Flint Bowmen has a number of youth bows that have been donated to
the club for our beginners. There is a limited number but you can borrow them to
shoot the league. Keep in mind that it's important to have your own bow and to
have it set up and tuned to you and your specific needs.

much it will cost by CLICKING

We have projects going on all year long. Whether it is doing registrations
for the leagues or shoots, working a novelty booth at an event, cooking in
the kitchen during the leagues, outdoor "building & grounds" type of work etc.
The list goes on and on.
Some members like to cut targets in the back room or set targets out for
league day. Some of us like to join our President on one of his Monday workdays
that run from Feb. to June every year. Trust me, there is ALWAYS something to do
around here to earn your work hours - and none of it will require any seriously
strenuous work either. In fact, it'll probably be the most fun you've had
working in a very long time.
Yes they are. It is a family membership and they get the same advantages as
the person who joins. The kids need to be with a parent while at the Club until
they are 19 when they need to get their own membership.
No, all they need to do is pay the $50.00 membership fee and they are a
member. Of course they need to work their 20 hours to keep their dues $50.00.
Why should I join a 3-D league?
Because it requires that you shoot your bow at least once a week for 8 weeks.
With our busy schedules and lifestyle, it is very easy to say you are going to
practice but before you know it, it is time to go to bed and you didn’t shoot.
Being on a league encourages you to practice on a weekly basis and this keeps
you sharp.
Plus it's just plain fun and a league is a great excuse to get out to the
club! "Awww darn honey, I can't go shopping with you tonight - it's league
night. I've got to go out to the club and shoot. Maybe next time though."
heh heh heh
Yes, after shooting an eight week league, you will know what your shooting
limitations are when you get in the woods in October. You will have experienced
over 100 different shots at different targets at different distances with over
30 of the shots coming from elevated tree stands.
This type of practice will go a long way in honing your skills and improving
your distance estimation. When the time comes for the shot, it is likely that
you will just go into "auto mode" and, just like the 100 or so shots before,
your arrow will hit home and all of that practice will pay for itself in
trophies - whether the trophies are medals or back straps.
Yes! Practice, Practice, practice. That is the best way to improve your
skills. The more often you shoot, the more comfortable you are when it is time
to make the shot that really counts. Many of our members shoot every available
league we offer - all year long.
Besides it is just plain fun shooting a 3-D league. The same camaraderie that
we all enjoy at deer camp can also be found at the club on league day.
Yes. Many of our members only shoot because they enjoy shooting their bows.
They shoot both target and animal leagues just for the fun of shooting their
bows at different kinds of challenges. Our target leagues have been growing
year after year and it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon. More
and more people are becoming interested in target archery. Flint Bowmen has
become quite active in some of the local and state tournaments over the last few
years and our members have been doing very well at these tournaments. And a
growing number of bowhunters have learned that taking up target archery can make
them a better all around archer and thus, a more effective bowhunter. Many of
our target shooters are also bowhunters.
Only if you are hunting the dreaded cardboard antelope - and you must have a
legal tag and be wearing hunter orange. The only weapons we allow are a yellow
highlighter pen and a wooden spoon. Or in other words - NO, there is no
hunting at all on Flint Bowmen property. Not even for those terribly annoying
squirrels which is too bad because I think every member and most non-members
would put in for a couple of those tags I'm sure! But again - there is NO
HUNTING on Flint Bowmen property.
And that's really too bad because we have had some really awesome wildlife on
our club property over the years. We've had deer, pheasants, turkey and even an
albino deer a few years back. But no, there is absolutely NO hunting on Flint
Bowmen property.
By joining Flint Bowmen, you have access to our indoor and outdoor shooting
ranges 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can shoot in a heated indoor range or
on a target filled outdoor range. If need be, you can stop in to the club during
the wee hours of the morning to dial in your bow before you leave on a hunting
trip because you suspect that something is wrong with your setup (been
there-done that). Members also save money on all of our events and leagues. If
you're an avid and active shooter, it wouldn't take too long to recoup your dues
just in the savings you'll get as a member. And it is a friendly, family
environment to enjoy archery with the whole family. Plus you are almost always
surrounded by an enormous amount of archery experience whether it be target
archery or bow hunting that you are interested.
A workday is a day dedicated to getting things done around Flint Bowmen. On
our regularly scheduled monthly workdays that run from April to September, there
is NO SHOOTING until after ALL of the work is done. Sometimes the workers will
fling a few arrows after the work is finished but ONLY if ALL of the work is
done. No exceptions to this rule! Workdays are a lot more fun than they sound.
Some of the jobs on workday include cutting out targets, fixing target bales,
cutting and stacking wood from fallen trees, preparing the club for an upcoming
event, working on the pole barn, repairing or building elevated platforms,
painting the buildings or targets, etc etc etc.
None of the jobs are too strenuous and most times it can be more fun than
work. A wise man I know is often heard saying his favorite motto that "If
everyone does a little, nobody has to do a lot!" Not only is it a great way to
put in your yearly work hours, but it's also a great way to get to know some of
your fellow members.
You get one shot per target unless you completely miss the target. If you do
miss completely, you can take a second shot but it only counts for half score.
For example, if your second shot is a 20, then you can only apply 10 points to
your score.
When shooting, you must touch the stake . The only exceptions are when you
are shooting from an elevated platform, shooting from a kneeling or sitting
position, or unless a sign instructs you otherwise. You may lean in any
direction but you must be touching the stake when you shoot.
The scoring on our 3-D targets is 20-16-4. 20 points for the big center kill
ring, (we do not use the little ring in the middle). The area that represents
the lungs would be 16 points and any other part of the body is 4 points. You can
go
HERE to see a graphical representation of
our scoring method.
If I want to shoot a 3-D course a second time, is that OK?
A second time
shooting is permitted and it only cost half price. The score does not count for
league but it is permitted because any practice is good practice.
Can I shoot a 3-D league by myself?
Yes, you can. While we like people to with
someone, it is allowed to shoot by yourself.
If I come up to a target that I have never seen before, can I walk up and look
at the target before I shoot?
No, it is not allowed to walk up see where any
kills are before you shoot. Pick the best spot you think the kill should be and
take your shot.
Are there restrictions on poundage that I shoot when it comes to my bow?
No.
The only thing we ask is never draw the bow back higher then the target you are
shooting at. If you have to “Draw from the sky,” you might have to let some
poundage off your bow.
