WHEN:
This league
runs for 8 weeks from October 11th (Saturdays) to the
banquet on December 13th.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This league
is designed for beginner to intermediate shooters ages 5 to
16. We have at least one instructor for every two kids so
the kids will have as much individual help as they
need. The kids will learn how to safely hold and shoot a
bow, stand correctly, score their arrows, correctly pull the
arrows from the targets, and not to mention how to handle
their bows around others. The kids will never have their
bow and arrows in their hands at the same time unless they
are on the shooting line! We only allow 14 kids on the line
at a time and the rest are seated in chairs with their
parents. The league is very controlled - safety is our main
concern!
The kids
will start out shooting 3 arrows, then they put their bows
on the rack and go back to the staging line until all the
shooters are finished. They will all go up together to
score and pull their arrows. They will put their arrows in
their quivers and take them back to their seats or set them
aside. The kids
start out shooting from 5 to 15 yards depending on their
skill level. As they meet 70% of the total score shot, they
will move back in 5-yard increments and earn a pin for their
quiver/hat, etc. The kids also earn pins by shooting 3
bulls eyes in one round! Most kid’s start out shooting 5
yards then within a few weeks they tend to spread out to 10
and 15 yards. Some will stay at 5 yards the whole league,
which is perfectly fine. We don’t push the kids to move
back because some tend to get discouraged when shooting at a
longer distance.
We have enough room for 14
shooters at a time so we will have about 3 lines of 5 yard
shooters, 1 line with 10 yard shooters and 1 line of 15 yard
shooters, so there is time for the kids to sit until it’s
their turn again. We generally get 7-8 rounds in (which is
plenty for some kids who are not used to shooting). Parents
are not allowed on the shooting line while the kids are
shooting (although you are
encouraged to stay and watch).

EQUIPMENT:
The kids are encouraged to
bring their own bow and at least 3 arrows (no oversized
tips). If the kids do not have their own equipment, the
club rents bows/arrows on a first come first serve basis.
Bow rental is $2 a session, plus a driver’s license from the
parent/guardian. If your child is renting a bow and needs
to stay for both sessions, he/she will need to pay rental
for both sessions.
BANQUET:
We will have a potluck
banquet on December 13 where all the kids get trophies and
prizes. Our sponsor, Safari Club of Flint, also provides
the kids with a cool T-shirt. In November we have a
photographer come in to take individual and group pictures.
COST/DATE/TIME:
The league
begins Saturday, October 11 and runs for 8 weeks from
9:00–11:30 a.m. or 1:00–3:30 p.m. The cost is $32 for club
members and $40 for non-members. If your child misses a
session, he/she can make it up the following week at the
9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. session (which means they can stay
for both sessions). If you prefer to pay by the week, we
ask for two weeks fees to be paid on the first day of the
league.

WAIVER:
All kids are required to
have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian on file in order
to participate in the league, which will be mailed to you
prior to the league or you can
